Goal for Redesign

The platform features a structured process where attorneys approve clients from initial intake to timeline creation. Within this workflow, attorneys can manually add requirements for clients to complete. My goals for this redesign are:

  1. To create a personalized and intuitive user interface for the existing workflow.

  2. To establish a reusable design system that imparts a modern and trustworthy tone.

Design System

The design system features a modern and trustworthy tone, primarily using a green/blue color palette. It includes consistent typography, iconography, and layout grids to ensure a cohesive user experience across both staff and client portals. The system emphasizes clarity, accessibility, and a professional aesthetic.

User Dashboard

The redesigned user dashboard features an overview of all cases sorted by dates and customized statuses. Attorneys can view this at-a-glance to identify which cases need immediate attention.

Case Management

The case tab features a list view containing all open cases. For each case/case type, attorneys can customize the steps required for clients to complete in order to move forward with their cases. This intuitive UI has proven to be user-friendly and has greatly improved efficiency for attorneys in tracking and managing progress with each individual client.

Attorney vs. Client Timeline

Each law case opens a timeline view containing all the steps created by the attorney, from new client intake to case completion. Attorneys can send a portal invite to clients to sign up for a client portal. From the attorney's perspective, the timeline view is split into 'client actions' and 'attorney actions', clearly categorizing actions completed by different roles. For clients, a one-sided timeline is presented as a checklist for them to complete the steps created by their attorneys."

Error Validation & Intake Form

The redesigned intake form features a new progress bar indicating to potential new clients how much they have finished on the form, informing respondents with their progress in a form. I created rules and guidlines for error validations by defining error validation patterns, create error message templates, and put up documentations for future development and feature updates.

New Feature - Help Center

To ensure a seamless user onboarding process, I created a new feature: a help center that includes a detailed quick start guide for attorneys from the law firm to quickly get started on the platform. This feature also opens up opportunities to expand the potential market for this product, laying the foundation for its future sales and transition from a customized solution into a SaaS product.

Summary

Over a 3-month period, I redesigned the platform that manages tenant/landlord law cases. I achieved my goal of creating a personalized and intuitive UI for the existing workflow and established a reusable design system with a modern and trustworthy tone. More importantly, I added new features that laid the foundation and inspired the transition from a customized solution to a SaaS product, expanding its potential markets to all law firms, not just limited to tenant/landlord law. This product served as the prototype for Gideon Legal SaaS, another product I designed, which has been launched and is currently sold to over 5 law firms.
